This young boy has never had a wheelchair. His family was in tears when receiving it from VYA. Dad said, How can a broken man and a little boy come half way around the world to do more for my son then I have been able to do for him".

Our mission is to teach our kids to be leaders amongst their fellow peers and their community and communities abroad. It will educate them, empower them, build self confidence, self respect along with respect for others, teach them to challenge themselves, give them honor, pride, a sense of responsibility and also humble them for all the many blessings they have in their lives. It will show them the difference in opportunities they can acquire being an American. Being an American is a blessing and not a sense of entitlement. This program will permanently impact the lives of these students and those around them.

The Children at Fridsro Children’s Home in Sri Lanka awaiting for the arrival of VYA

Students will have opportunities to learn things that one can only learn from experience, such as being emerged in their community along with seeing how life is really carried out in another country such as Sri Lanka. The haggard faces of poverty, stricken mothers, the smiling faces of children who have nothing, all these things leave lasting effects that will instill students with a heart for the hurting anywhere they see it, even in there own back yard. It will also empower them to work hard to ensure their futures.

Students will return with a sense of appreciation for the benefits of American life. Once students sees how a differently configured economy, such as that of Sri Lanka, effects daily like in that country, they will always be making comparisons once they return home, instilling them the importance of civic duty and responsibility here at home.
